Freedom Programme, Swindon & Wiltshire

SWINDON FREEDOM PROGRAMME 2018.  Please contact us for more details…..

The Swindon Freedom Programme is a confidential support group for any woman aged 16 plus.  We welcome women who are currently living with domestic abuse and violence, anyone who has recently separated from an abusive partner and any woman who has experienced domestic abuse in the past and feels it's still affecting  her life today - even if it was many years ago.

The Swindon Freedom Programme is free to attend.  We also provide a free creche for children under school age, the creches are run by an experienced team of creche workers who work to Ofsted standards.

The Freedom Programme is a rolling-programme of 12 sessions and we meet once a week at safe, central community venues.  Programmes run continuously throughout the year so women can join at any time.  You don't have to sign up, or come every week if you can't make it.  You don't have to book a place each week, you just turn up if you want to come along because the Freedom Programme in Swindon is for women to use as they need.

We understand how difficult it can be to come to a group for the first time, so if you would like to come along to see what it is like but then decide it isn't for you that's absolutely fine.  If you decide at any time to come back and give it a try again you are always welcome.  We understand that women have to work through things in their own time and when it feels right for them.

If you don't feel comfortable coming to a group but would like some one to one support, or if you would like a chance to look through the Freedom Programme material before making a decision whether to come to the group or not, then please get in touch with us and we can arrange that with you.

We have been running the Freedom Programme since 2007 and these are some of the things said about the Swindon Freedom Programme by women who have come to the group over the years:

"Prior to attending the Freedom Programme, I was anxious and worried constantly, and I was unsure whether some situations I found myself in with my ex-partner was actually abusive.  I now feel empowered and I understand domestic abuse."

"I was feeling very confused and alone before I came on the Freedom Programme.  I now feel clearer and feel more supported and not alone."

"Before I came on the Freedom Programme I was at a loss to know which way to turn.  Burnt out and confused.  Now I can look at situations with more confidence, make decisions without doubts at my own ability and I have more 'good' days than 'bad' - a big change!"

The Freedom Programme is an opportunity for survivors of domestic abuse to understand male violence towards women.  It helps women understand the behaviours and beliefs of their abusive partners or ex-partners, connect with other women who have had similar experiences, feel less isolated and alone and have the chance to work through their feelings and experiences in a safe way.

It also looks at the impact of domestic violence and abuse on children, and offers support to women dealing with children of all ages who are affected by what they have seen or heard.  The group is run every week by 2 trained and experienced domestic violence specialist workers who can offer any help and support needed during the sessions, and are also available for any one to one support outside of the group.

Women can lose a lot through experiencing domestic abuse; their confidence and self-esteem, their friends and family, their children, their home, their job or opportunity to study; their trust in themselves and their sense of identity.  The Freedom Programme is a chance to begin to recover in a safe place, with others who understand and do not judge.

Women can contact us themselves directly or professionals can refer their clients onto the Freedom Programme, please just give us a call or send an email and we will be in touch to talk about times, days, venues and to answer any questions.
