Raising Awareness, Improving Understanding and Responding to the Needs of Survivors of Domestic Abuse

HOMETRUTHS believes in providing quality training to professionals across the South West, by skilled, qualified, experienced practitioners and trainers.

We bring our knowledge, experience and expertise in the field of domestic abuse to the training packages we develop and facilitate.  Through bridging theory and research from the international domestic violence field, with the realities of the survivors we work with, we are able to bring our training sessions alive and provide contemporary and authentic scenarios to assist with professional's understanding of domestic abuse, and reflect realistically the issues of working within this arena.  We ensure our training is responsive to and reflective of changes in Government legislation and we use a range of training techniques to meet the learning styles of particpants.

We customize our training sessions to ensure they are relevant to the work of those attending.  It is important that professionals understand how domestic abuse impacts on the people they work with, and how they can improve engagement and outcomes for survivors of domestic abuse and their children, in whatever field they work in.  We recognise that domestic abuse and violence is a complex and often challenging issue for individuals and within society, so we aim to create a safe and confidential training environment to encourage open and honest discussion to assist with learning and professional understanding and development.

We have trained people from a wide range of backgrounds including: Social Workers, Health Visitors, Police Officers, Children's Centre Workers, Counsellors, Students & Volunteers, Magistrates and Solicitors.

"Kim and Mary have many years experience in the DV field. Their passion and knowledge for the subject comes through in the training they offer. I recently attended a workshop on stalking which I found educational and very moving. It inspired me to work even harder with those experiencing all aspects of DV"  - Counsellor

Impact of Domestic Abuse on Children: "Very comprehensive, really enjoyed the training.  Very interesting and engaging." - Social Worker

"Good for self reflection and techniques of working with families - very useful, especially the impact on children and how they can be utilised as a tool." - Social Worker
